This weekend marked the final outing of Onroak Automotive-built cars in a race in the 2016 season. In the Prototype category four Ligier JS P3s took part in the Gulf 12 Hours, a double 6-hour race on the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. In a field completed by 20 GTs, divided up into four categories, the Ligier JS P3s were the quickest cars on the track all weekend.
The Onroak Automotive LM P3s entered by United Autosports and Graff, the reigning European champion and runner-up teams in LM P3, dominated free practice. They monopolised either the first two or the first four places in each of the four sessions.
The Ligier JS P3s were also very quick in the race and set the fastest times in each of the two 6-hour heats with the no. 24 Graff JS P3 getting round in 2m 06.987sec and no. 23 entered by United Autosports lapping in 2m 07.402sec. But in fact the Ligier JS P3s had no chance of winning the race as the regulations imposed two additional pit stops for the prototypes in each leg, six instead of four for the GTs. In addition, while some of the GT driver line-ups comprised three pros, the line-ups in the Prototype category could only count on one professional whose driving time was limited to two hours out of the twelve foreseen for the race!
Graff won the Prototype category in this intensely-competitive double 6-hour race with the no. 5 Ligier JS P3 followed the two United Autosports cars nos 23 and 22. The second Graff entry, no. 24, failed to see the chequered flag due to engine failure.
